Preparing for uni study – tips for parents

11 November 2014

If you’ve got kids bound for uni next year there’s a laundry list of tasks to complete in the next three months to get them ready for life at university. We want to make sure you’ve got all the info you need so, for the next 8 weeks we’ll be providing a bite-sized weekly tip to help you make the transition as smooth as possible.

Here’s a taste of what to expect.

Surviving Schoolies week is just one of things you need to consider as a parent along with finding accommodation options and managing QTAC preferences.

The majority of uni offers are made in January so in this month we’ll focus on the crucial steps of accepting an offer and enrolling in classes. We’ll demystify uni-speak and you’ll be talking the talk in no time.

O Week is the most exciting part of February and it’s a great way to get started on the right foot. Finding out about available support services, striking the right balance between work and study, and getting involved in uni life are also all key ingredients to success at uni.

And, last but not least, the best way to get started on preparing for life at uni next year is to attend USC Options on Friday 19 December. It’s an all-day affair for you and your kids to drop in at a time that suits you between 9am and 5pm and get the info you need. We’ll be hosting a special seminar ‘Surviving the first year of uni’ and our Student Ambassadors will be running campus tours throughout the day.
