Profile

Carmen is a social scientist with over ten years' experience working in environmental management and research. She has a Science degree from the University of Western Australia where she carried out honours research in Coastal Geography and Environmental Management. Carmen commenced her career in the role of social and environmental scientist at the University of Western Australia’s Institute for Regional Development (IRD). On leaving the IRD, Carmen joined Coastal Zone Management as a consultant specialising in social and environmental management. Since this time, Carmen has worked as an academic researcher at the University of the Sunshine Coast and as an independent consultant to national and international organisations.

Carmen has provided technical advice on mainstream climate change into integrated coastal zone management in Kiribati, Albania, the Mediterranean and Mauritius. She has delivered climate adaptation policy advice to the United Nations Development Program in Albania, the Western Australian Department of Water and the Australian National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) in the areas of water, local government, biodiversity and weather extremes. Carmen has designed monitoring and evaluation frameworks for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (ie PIFACC) as well as the Australian government (ie Pacific Adaptation Strategy Assistance Program, PASAP). Working in Australia and internationally, Carmen has trained and mentored representatives from national and local governments in approaches to climate change assessment and adaptation planning as well as climate change financing.
