Profile

Dr Ben Wardle joined the USC Law School at the University of the Sunshine Coast in January 2017. He previously taught law at Griffith University for eight years and was also a staff member at the TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland for three years.

Ben completed his PhD entitled, ‘The Four Axes of Legal Ideology’ in 2016. The thesis develops the concept of ideology to assist in systemising the myriad of ways that dominant legal norms and practices sustain relations of inequality, exploitation and oppression.

His research combines Lacanian psychoanalysis, critical legal theory and continental philosophy to reveal ways that contemporary legal norms and practices sustain relations of social domination and oppression. Ben’s works exploring the relationships between law and inequality have been published in the Griffith Law Review, the Journal of Political Ideologies, and the Alternative Law Journal.

Ben teaches property law, equity and foundations of law.
