Dave has taught P-12 Health and Physical Education in regional Queensland state schools for the past 25 years - Central Queensland, SW Queensland and Wide Bay.
During this time, Dave also worked as:
- an Education Adviser for Education Qld
- a professional rugby coach in Canada
- a Support Teacher in Literacy and Numeracy
Dave is very involved with local school and community junior sport on the Fraser Coast.
Dave has coached all manner of sports but focused primarily on rugby union in which he has held a Level 2 coaching accreditation for over 20 years (Qld Combined Schools coach for many years and Wide Bay Open Schoolboys coach for many more). Dave has convened a Queensland schools' championships and hosted several overseas school sports visits. He was also privileged to receive a life membership of the Queensland Rugby Football Schools Union in 2015.
Dave holds a Level 2 Australian Strength and Conditioning Association coaching certification which is put to good use with school-aged athletes in the local area (some of them are elite athletes).
Dave has presented at various international and national conferences over the years; most recently he presented at the 2017 ACHPER conference in Canberra, where he conducted a workshop on running fitness classes with schoolchildren. Prior to that he presented at the 2015 ACHPER conference where he conducted a “Getting Inventive with Invasion Games” workshop.
Dave is currently undertaking a PhD thesis involving a qualitative study of volunteer sports coaches in regional Queensland.
