Health and fitness services

The USC Gym (Sippy Downs campus) provides members with safe, fun and research-supported exercise programs.

With the help of sport scientists and exercise physiologists, our highly qualified team can aid in the following:

  • weight-loss
  • increasing muscle strength and size
  • increasing fitness
  • increasing sports performance
  • injury rehabilitation

Gym equipment

Whether you're a novice gym member or seasoned gym-junkie, you will get the most out of every workout with our modern equipment including free-weights, power racks, Olympic lifting platform, and Calgym pin-loading exercise equipment.

Our range of aerobic exercise equipment includes the ultra-fast Keiser spin bikes, Life Fitness treadmills and Concept 2 rowing machine.

Other accessories such as medicine balls, bosu-balls, fit-balls, adjustable steps, kettle-bells and skipping/jump ropes are also available to complete your work-out.

Functional training zone

All USC Gym members have access to our outdoor functional training zone. This specialised zone, equipped with outdoor stereo speakers, includes a metered turf track, agility ladder, plyometric boxes, weighted sled, kettle bells, Olympic lifting platforms with bumper plates, and outdoor power rig. So whether you are after sports specific training, weight-loss, or muscle gain, this zone is an excellent resource for your training.

Group exercise classes

Students and staff of the University and members of the community can take advantage of group exercise sessions that provide health and well-being in a fun and supportive environment. USC Gym memberships include free access to group exercise classes.

Yoga

Yoga is a great way to improve flexibility, joint stability and balance. Regardless of your yoga skill level, our qualified instructors will ensure you achieve a state of relaxation in a safe and supervised environment. NOTE: Yoga mats are provided for this class

Zumba

Come and find out why they are calling Zumba the sexiest workout class ever! Catering to all skill and fitness levels, Zumba teaches you Latin style dance moves designed to tone and work the whole body.

Circuit

If you want a high intensity full body workout, then circuit class is for you! Circuit class requires you to race against the clock, completing various strengthening and toning exercises, designed to give you an intense full-body workout.

Boxfit

If you have ever felt you need more of a physical challenge than standard gym workouts provide, then you need Boxfit! Let our Thump Boxing accredited instructor take you through a fun and challenging workout, whilst teaching you boxing moves that you will love. This class caters to all skill levels and all boxing equipment is provided

USC Gainers

Spartan_T-Shirt.jpgOperating during Semester 1 and 2, this unique program is designed to provide additional support for USC Gym members that have a low body mass index and have trouble gaining mass. To be part of this program members must commit to daily food recording and adhere to a prescribed exercise program. This service is free for USC Gym members.

The USC Gym can be found on the ground floor of the Health and Sport Centre (beside the Sports Stadium and USC Pool) and is open to students, staff, alumni, and members of the community.

Student Services and Amenities Fee discounts

Federal government legislation determines that funds derived from the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) can be spent on supporting a sporting or other recreational activity by students. USC is therefore continuing with the Student discount at the USC Gym in 2016.

Students are eligible for a A$50 discount off their pool or gym memberships for a limited time during each semester, with the discount period commencing in orientation week of Semester 1 and 2. Please see USC Sport staff for details.

Please note: A valid Student Identification card must be shown at the time of membership application.

USC students and staff can train at Physique Fitness and PCYC Hervey Bay. These specialised gyms and fitness centres are located walking distance from the Hervey Bay campus and are an excellent option for those wanting to exercise in a friendly and supported environment.

Physique Fitness

This friendly gym is a short walk from the Hervey Bay campus, and boasts free exercise programming, custom made resistance training equipment, and a wide range of aerobic training equipment. Operating 24 hours, Physique Fitness will always be available for you to train no matter how busy your schedule.

USC students and staff can train at various fitness centres located in Gympie. These specialised gyms and fitness centres are located within 10mins drive from the Gympie campus and are an excellent option for those wanting to exercise in a friendly and supported environment.

Cooloola Fitness Centre

This local gym boasts a wide range of Les Mills exercise classes including Body Attack, Body Pump, Body Step, Body Balance, and RPM.

Club Vitality

USC students and staff can train at Club Vitality in South Brisbane. This boutique gym is located 10 metres walk from the SouthBank campus and is an excellent option for those wanting to exercise in a friendly and supported environment.
