Some stunning visual art by regional high school students will go on show at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery tomorrow (Thursday 23 August) at 6pm.
The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art – Regional Exhibition is held annually to recognise and promote excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland’s state and non-state high schools.
It will be officially opened by Queensland Studies Authority Senior Education Officer Susan Hollindale.
Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said this will be the first time many of the students involved will have their artwork exhibited in a professional gallery environment.
She said USC Gallery has now hosted the popular annual exhibition for 10 years.
“It helps raise community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts education in Queensland secondary schools,” she said.
The exhibition is presented in association with the Queensland Government Department of Education, Training and Employment and S&S Wholesalers. It will run until Thursday 13 September.
The gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.
The 2011 University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery program is proudly supported by the Proost De Deyne Family and Big Kart Track.
