Traffic delays likely as Orientation Week begins

The University of the Sunshine Coast has advised its students and staff to expect traffic delays during Orientation Week next week (February 13-17) due to roadworks at the University’s main entrance.

With thousands of new students arriving for O Week activities, the University has encouraged motorists to either allow extra time to reach USC or to try alternative transport options.

The roadworks are part of a Sunshine Coast Council project to widen Sippy Downs Drive to four lanes and replace the roundabout at the entrance to USC (on the intersection with Stringybark Road) with traffic lights.

Work along Sippy Downs Drive is expected to continue for most of this year.

USC has emailed all of its enrolled students, including up to 3,000 new students, advising them to set out earlier than they would normally if they plan to access the University via Sippy Downs Drive.

Other suggested alternatives are to park near the University’s Sports Stadium (at the Claymore Road end of Sippy Downs Drive), carpool or travel by public transport or bicycle. USC has secure bicycle racks and shower facilities for cyclists on campus.
