Business development and investment specialist Mark Paddenburg has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast (ICSC) at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Mr Paddenburg, who has a strong background in the development of companies ranging from small start-ups to large multinational corporations, is now tasked with creating new jobs in new industries for the Sunshine Coast region.

The ICSC was established in 2002 and will this year celebrate 10 years of supporting start-up success. It currently has more than 20 client companies in the fields of information and communication technology (ICT), clean technology and health technologies and offers world-class business support for entrepreneurs and growing companies.

Mr Paddenburg previously worked as Manager of Invest Queensland, was a partner at Venture Commander, a senior policy advisor for the State Government and a senior project manager at Brisbane City Council.

He said his career motivation came from assisting new investment and business development outcomes in Queensland.

“I am very excited about my new role as CEO of the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast,” he said. “The ICSC has so much to offer and the location is obviously one of the best in the world for business success.

“Assisting aspiring and established entrepreneurs is a role that I find very rewarding and I look forward to being part of the ICSC and University of the Sunshine Coast team.”

Mr Paddenburg began his career as a chartered accountant and has worked for Shell Exploration and Mining in London, Peregrine Capital, the Office of Economic Development for City of Brisbane Ltd, Brisbane City Council, Venture Commander and the State Government (most recently as Manager of Investment Attraction).

Through his work, he has provided development assistance to a variety of companies including Dascom (now owned by IBM), (now owned by Flight Centre), Youi, Tracknology, Unisys, Talisman Energy, Digicel Pacific, Sandvik, Lockheed Martin, ABB, CAE, Adani Mining, PanelBuild, Visy, Air Asia X, Etihad Airways, Emirates Airlines and JetStar.

Mr Paddenburg has a Graduate Certificate of Management from The University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Commerce from Griffith University.
