The University of the Sunshine Coast’s Art Gallery is fast recruiting friends – Facebook friends.

The gallery has joined social networking website Facebook in a bid to promote current and future art exhibitions, social events and art news to friends around the globe.

Assistant curator Lou Jaeger said the gallery’s Facebook business page, which was launched just over a month ago, had already attracted more than 100 friends.

“This Facebook business page is about us being able to network using social media and to also reach those people who don’t use email,” she said.

Ms Jaeger said the page would provide links to local and international art news and events and be a source of feedback and debate for the gallery’s exhibitions and other industry-related topics.

“The page will be a fun, one-stop-shop for information and photos and we encourage conversation and comments,” she said.

“People are welcome to give their opinions on gallery exhibitions or industry news and hopefully they will contribute ideas and come along to our events.”

Last year almost 12,000 people visited the USC Art Gallery, including University staff and students, school groups, volunteers and members of the public.
