A dream of becoming a musical theatre star will soon take flight for University of the Sunshine Coast student Jackson Kellaway when he travels overseas as part of USC’s Global Opportunities (GO) student exchange program.
Jackson, 21, of Caboolture, will depart on Tuesday 14 January for the United States where he will complete a semester of study at Millersville University, Pennsylvania.
The second-year Bachelor of Arts student, who is studying USC’s new Drama major, said he was excited about spending a semester abroad.
“This is my first trip overseas and I’m looking forward to experiencing American university life and learning drama and other subjects from some of the leaders in their field,” he said.
“I would love to get into the musical theatre industry, so I consider the opportunity to study drama abroad a big step in the right direction.”
USC’s GO program enables students to spend up to two semesters overseas while earning credit towards their degrees at more than 70 international partner institutions, including universities in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Jackson was initially enrolled in a different study program but changed to an Arts degree when the University introduced a new Drama major at the start of this year.
“I have always had a passion for drama and the performing arts so, when this major became available, I jumped at the chance and changed programs,” he said.
“Now I’m studying both Drama and Public Relations and I absolutely love it. I can’t wait to undertake my next adventure studying at an overseas institution.”
