Nine finalists in an exciting business pitch competition will go head to head for a chance to win a share of $20,000 in prizes at the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast (ICSC) tomorrow (Thursday 25 July).
The budding entrepreneurs will present five-minute pitches in front of a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style judging panel, before three contestants are selected for a grand final showdown.
The stakes are high, with prize packages including cash, access to shared Innovation Centre office space, business development services and consultations on legal issues, capital raising, commercialisation and marketing.
ICSC CEO Mark Paddenburg said the quality of the competitors and finalists for the business pitch competition reflected the high level of entrepreneurship in action on the Sunshine Coast.
“We are very pleased with the response from the Sunshine Coast community – with the number of applications up over 70% from last year,” he said. “This competition helps students, entrepreneurs and businesses to refine and communicate their business plans clearly to potential partners, investors and clients.
“The finalists are from a broad range of organisations and industries from cutting-edge digital technology to those from traditional business backgrounds.”
The ICSC is a University of the Sunshine Coast company that has supported the start-up and growth of 105 companies and raised more than $30 million of early stage capital during the past 11 years.
The ICSC also runs a business events and UniConnect program designed to help clients and local entrepreneurs connect with each other and the University to build a more diversified regional economy.
