Woodford Folk Festival’s Closing Ceremony Fire Event director Joey Ruigrok van der Werven will present a free public lecture at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Thursday 14 November.
Mr Ruigrok van der Werven, who is described as a “spectacle specialist”, will speak from 6pm to 7.15pm about how communities can create their own unique, theatrically creative events.
He will also discuss how he developed and produced some of his popular designs and events, which have been presented across Australia.
USC Drama lecturer Dr Jo Loth said the lecture would be ideal for those interested in the design, planning and development of creative ideas into full-scale theatrical events.
“Joey is an expert at taking an idea and transforming it into a large-scale, outdoor, jaw-dropping spectacle,” Dr Loth said.
“I expect it will fire up the imaginations of many of USC’s Drama students and inspire them to experiment with creating their own theatrical spectacles.”
The Closing Ceremony Fire Event is one of the Woodford Folk Festival’s most popular events and features the burning of a giant effigy as part of a large-scale celebration of dance, music and theatre.
Those interested in attending are asked to register online.
