Hundreds to graduate from USC tonight

Published on 3 October 2013

A crowd of about 1,400 graduands, academics and guests is expected to fill the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Sports Stadium for USC’s Semester 2 Graduation ceremony tonight (Thursday 3 October).

The event will be video-streamed live on this site from 4.55pm.

The celebration – at which almost 300 people will cross the stage to receive awards – will be the University’s third Graduation ceremony this year, following two larger events in April.

It will feature plenty of pomp and ceremony, including an academic procession at 4.55pm, medals for high-achieving students and staff, and the presentation of three honorary awards.

USC’s Chancellor John Dobson OAM will confer more than 520 degrees and certificates on graduands, while renowned architect John Mainwaring will deliver the graduation address.

During the ceremony, the University will present an Honorary Doctorate to Mr Mainwaring for his distinguished career, as well as Honorary Senior Fellowships to sustainability advocate Susie Chapman and Indigenous educator Denise Proud.

Among the crowd will be parents of the two Chancellor’s Medallists – Iori Forsyth and David Fleischman – who have travelled from Japan and the United States of America for the ceremony.
