The Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition is fast becoming one of the most popular exhibitions to be shown at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery this year.
More than 1,100 people have viewed this collection of stunning press images – judged Australia’s best for 2013 – since the exhibition opened at USC in late March.
The touring exhibition previously featured in capital cities across the country and will continue at the USC Gallery until Saturday 3 May 2014. It is being shown in collaboration with the Walkley Foundation for Journalism and the Sunshine Coast Daily.
USC Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said Walkley Awards had been presented each year since 1956 as the highest honour in Australian journalism.
She said the photojournalism section of the awards recognised the work of photographers across a range of genres, including news photography, sport, portraits, feature/photo essay and community/regional photography.
“The Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition presents the 2013 finalists and winners and is a great opportunity for the Sunshine Coast community to see the outstanding work of Australia’s top photojournalists,” she said.
“It features photographs selected from almost 350 entries in the 2013 awards for newsworthiness, impact, creativity and technical skill.”
The gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays and public holidays.
