The future educational and employment needs of the Gympie region will be high on the agenda at a special “meeting of the minds” in Gympie on Tuesday 26 August.
The University of the Sunshine Coast Council, which usually meets at USC’s Sippy Downs campus, will hold its first meeting at USC’s Gympie campus on Cartwright Road.
An important part of the event will be a pre-meeting luncheon with Gympie Regional Councillors, high school principals, TAFE Queensland East Coast Gympie Manager Lyndall Ensbey and Gympie Chamber of Commerce president Ben Ellingsen.
The USC Council is the University’s governing body and is chaired by Chancellor John Dobson. It comprises members of USC’s executive, elected staff and students and appointed community representatives.
Chancellor Dobson said he and USC’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill had jointly decided to stage a University Council meeting in Gympie.
“We want to indicate the value we place on our campus there and the importance we place on Gympie as an education centre,” he said. “We want to do all we can to further the educational opportunities for the people of Gympie.”
