High school students in Gympie keen to kick off their tertiary studies early are invited to a special information session at USC's Gympie campus on Tuesday 9 September.
USC will outline its award-winning Headstart program that enables Year 11 and 12 students to study university-level subjects and gain credits towards their Queensland Certificate of Education and a USC degree at the same time.
The University will also announce its new Guaranteed Early Offer Scheme that will see some current Year 12 students from across Gympie receive offers from USC in November, before their final grades are released.
The “Give Yourself a Headstart” event will begin at the USC Gympie campus on Cartwright Road at 5.30pm and will be followed by a campus tour at 6.30pm. Students from Years 10-12 and their parents are invited to attend.
Event organiser Danielle Silcox said the information evening would explain the Headstart application process, eligibility, costs and all of the new courses on offer at USC Gympie.
“Headstart gives students the chance to experience studying at university and is a great opportunity to get ahead on a degree,” she said. “Entry into most USC degrees is almost guaranteed if they complete two Headstart courses while still at school,” she said.
“Gympie students can now study a wide variety of courses in Business, Accounting, Education, Nursing, Psychology and Social Sciences right here in Gympie.”
Current Gympie State High Year 12 student, Connor Hayes is studying a Headstart course this semester and plans to start a Bachelor of Engineering at USC next year.
Connor will be at the information session to answer questions about his Headstart experience.
