A number of University of the Sunshine Coast sporting teams will contend for gold medals in the finals of the Northern University Games on Thursday 10 July.
USC Sport Manager Nathan Gordon said USC was in the running for medals in women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s futsal, men’s football, mixed touch football and mixed ultimate frisbee.
Highlights of the day's competition at USC’s Sports Stadium will include the women’s futsal final at 12.10pm, the men’s futsal final at 4.20pm, and the women’s volleyball final at 2pm.
“It will certainly be exciting for the athletes to be competing for that chance of taking home gold,’’ Mr Gordon said.
Mr Gordon said the four-day games, which involved 11 universities from Queensland and northern New South Wales and more than 1,650 athletes competing across 16 sports, had already been a great success.
“The sport and the social outcomes have been great to see,” he said.
The games, run by Australian University Sport, were hosted by USC and the Sunshine Coast Council, along with a number of the region’s sports clubs.
The Northern University Games is one of three regional events that precede the 2014 Australian University Games in Sydney from 28 September.
