University of the Sunshine Coast academic Umi Khattab has been appointed to the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) National Education Committee.

Dr Khattab, a Senior Lecturer in Public Relations at USC, said she was honoured to work with the Institute.

“Working in a growing regional university such as USC offers me opportunities to engage in professional activities beyond the classroom,” she said.

“PRIA is the national industry body for public relations and communication professionals in Australia and the committee brings together academics and practitioners to advise on education issues.”

Dr Khattab said the committee aimed to ensure that education in public relations was at a standard that maintained and enhanced best practice.

“A new program being planned by the committee is a Student of the Year Award, open to final-year and postgraduate students in PRIA-accredited public relations courses,” she said.

“Final-year Public Relations students at USC, who are currently engaged in community events and internships, will be among those competing for the national award.”

The National Education Committee also includes academics from universities and institutes in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle and Canberra.
