High-profile former CEO of Leighton Holdings Wal King AO will deliver the inaugural Geoff Shadforth Memorial Lecture at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Thursday 15 May.
All those involved in the region’s construction industry are invited to attend this ticketed event to be held annually in honour of Geoff Shadforth, who was a co-director of Shadforths Civil Contractors when he tragically died while on holidays overseas last year, aged 35.
The event at USC’s Innovation Centre Auditorium from 5.30pm to 8pm is open to the general public and is set to appeal to a wide range of business people.
Tickets are available online at $70 each (or $60 each for group bookings of 10 or more) and include the lecture, refreshments and finger food.
Mr King, who was responsible for enormous growth during his time at Leighton Holdings, will share his insights into the construction industry and the opportunities and challenges it is likely to face in the future.
“I am honoured to have been invited to speak at the inaugural Geoff Shadforth Memorial Lecture and look forward to meeting those working in and leading the construction industry on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
Mr King is currently Deputy Chairman of Ausdrill Limited, a Director of Coca‐Cola Amatil Limited, Kimberley Foundation Australia Limited and Garvan Research Foundation Limited, and a Senior Adviser to CITIC Pacific Limited.
He is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, the Australian Institute of Building and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
USC’s Development Office Director Russell Ousley thanked the Shadforth family for donating funds to stage the first lecture. He said funds raised would be used to organise future lectures and to help promote the sharing of knowledge across the construction industry.
