Conference to shine light on Coast’s future

Published on 5 November 2014

Strategies on how Sunshine Coast organisations can collaborate for the greater good will be presented at an important annual conference at USC on Friday 7 November.

The Sunshine Coast Futures Conference 2014 – with the theme “Taking action” – will feature Professor Ed Morrison of Purdue University in the United States as its keynote speaker.

The internationally renowned expert in regional economic development will highlight that regions, now more than ever, need to act strategically and that collaboration is essential to moving big picture strategies along.

Professor Morrison is keen to address more than 200 delegates at the conference, including key decision-makers, academics, professionals and industry representatives.

“No single organisation has all the resources required to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead,” he said. “Effective collaboration has become an imperative.

“In our globally connected world, our challenges and opportunities are complex and shifting. Only through networks can we hope to mobilise the expertise and resources that we need to innovate in the face of these realities.”

The conference will feature a dozen other presenters, including Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson, USC Pro Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) Professor Mike Hefferan and representatives from the region’s business, community, education and health sectors.

Delegates will receive the latest in research and case studies and use real-time response technology to participate in discussions. They are encouraged to take their own internet enabled device to the conference and download the app in advance.

Online bookings for The Sunshine Coast Futures Conference 2014 have closed but those interested in attending can still register on the day.
