A desire to capitalise on her strong interest and professional experience in social media led Lauren Borger of Brisbane to undertake a Business degree at USC.
Lauren, 30, graduated from USC earlier this month with a Bachelor of Business (Tourism, Leisure and Event Management) and has already landed a job as the marketing manager for Brisbane-based tech start-up company, Tappr.
Founded in April 2012, Tappr is a mobile payments technology company which has developed a new way of taking card payments and running businesses from smartphones or tablets.
Lauren is excited about the opportunity to apply and develop the skills gained during her degree at such a cutting-edge business.
“The team and concept at Tappr are amazing and I love it there,” she said.
“My studies really helped me understand why clients need or want the things they do and I can also successfully measure outcomes, which is important when you are being assessed on your value as a consultant or employee.
“Also a degree gives you the credibility, authority and confidence to do the work you need to do.
“As marketing manager, I design and run social media and digital campaigns and garner local and international tech coverage for the interest of venture capitalists. I also have to dig into event management roles for company events.”
Lauren was living in north-east Victoria when she decided to study at USC.
“The campus was so new and the grounds were so beautiful, it really appealed to me,” she said. “I made invaluable relationships with my lecturers at USC and plan to continue to be involved with the uni in some way, hopefully mentoring in the future.
“I recently gave a talk to TAFE students at the USC Southbank campus about studying business and tourism there.”
