From eye-catching art installations and award-winning buildings to bike hubs and sporting facilities, the diverse features of the fast-growing USC campus at Sippy Downs are revealed in a new mobile application.
The new USC Campus Tour app provides a self-guided walking tour of its 100 hectares along with information in four categories: buildings, facilities, features and artwork.
USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Birgit Lohmann said the free app aimed to encourage more members of the Coast community to visit their own university campus and see what it had to offer the public as well as students and staff.
The GPS-enabled app allows visitors to plan their own campus tours using indicative distance and walking times.
“Although predominantly designed for first-time visitors, staff and students may also find new and interesting information about our campus on this app,” Professor Lohmann said.
The free app also means people can tour USC from anywhere in the world on their mobile device.
It was developed in partnership with local firm AppFactory, based at the University’s Innovation Centre.
USC Project Manager Dr Pam Wardner said the app was expected to be used by tourism and marketing bodies in promotional material for visitors to the region.
She said USC had grown immensely since it opened in 1996 and early feedback indicated that even people who knew the campus were discovering surprising and intriguing features.
