Competing in 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle (Classification: S8) and 100m Breaststroke (SB7) at the Rio Paralympics
USC connection: USC Spartans swimmer, studying Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science
At the age of just 25, Buderim swimmer Blake Cochrane is competing in his third Paralympics Games. The USC student won two gold medals at the London Games and a silver in Beijing, and will go to Rio ranked number two in the world for the 100m breaststroke.
Blake was born with a congenital limb deficiency, which means he does not have not have fingers or toes, and gained his international classification in 2008.
The former Redcliffe resident, who began swimming at USC in 2011, balances his training with studying a USC Clinical Exercise Science degree. He hopes to pursue a career in rehabilitation for people who have acquired a disability. Blake is a two-time winner of USC’s Sportsperson of the Year award.
After recording several blistering performances at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Glasgow, Blake is hoping for several more podium finishes when represents Australia in Rio.
