Competing in 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle (Classification: S10) at the Rio Paralympics
USC connection: USC Spartans swimmer
Originally from Bath in England, Guy Harrison-Murray moved from Perth to the Sunshine Coast to join the USC Spartans last year. Making the team for Rio was a long-held dream, but before he could be selected, Guy had one more hurdle to clear – becoming an Australian citizen. He was granted citizenship under a distinguished talent visa in 2015.
Guy, who was born with congenital bilateral talipes (also known as club foot), finished fourth in the 400m freestyle at last year’s World Championships and won a bronze medal as part of the 4 x 100m relay.
The 19-year-old thrives under pressure and has hopes of being in the medal mix for the 400m freestyle: “Swimming for Australia, rather than just for myself, will be something else. I can’t wait to compete.”
