Managing the clinical trial and basic science programs within the Vascular Surgery Department of the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. This predominately involves management of ethics applications, patient recruitment and review, liaising with clinical staff (surgeons, registrars, nurses and allied health staff) as to the progress of research participants through studies, collection of tissue and blood samples in both clinic environments and surgical theatre, blood sample processing and tissue sample analysis, data management and analysis, conference presentations and journal paper development and submission.
How did your USC degree assist you in gaining your position?
One of my PhD supervisors asked me to return to the Vascular Surgery Department to oversee the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital arm of the studies under the "National Centre of Research Excellence for Peripheral Arterial Disease" which is a program funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Did you access financial support?
I was the recipient of a PhD scholarship from both the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Research Foundation and the University of the Sunshine Coast. Without this scholarship, it would not have been financially viable for me to complete my PhD.
