The Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching (C-SALT) coordinates professional learning activities to support you in making the most of your academic efforts to create positive learning experiences for students.
An academic's professional learning journey is an ongoing process of inquiry into, growth of, and reflection on, one's teaching practice.
We believe this process involves
- examining and challenging assumptions about your role, experimenting with teaching strategies,
- developing a deeper understanding of your discipline, the students you teach and how your students learn, and
- undertaking formal and informal learning activities and programs to enhance professional knowledge, skills and attitudes.
Ongoing professional learning leads to more scholarly practice and dissemination of evidence-based learning and teaching activities.
Professional learning opportunities
Workshops and presentations in a range of professional development topics are held during the year.
PATS offers collaborative support to enhance teaching quality and course improvement arranged through mentoring pairs.
Learning and Teaching Week
Each year, USC hosts a week long celebration of learning and teaching.
Twice a year we offer a paid conference-style development experience for new and returning sessional teaching staff.
Foundations of University Teaching is an 8 week professional development program that gives academic staff a strong foundation in teaching, learning and assessment in higher education.
The Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching (C-SALT) have a range resources available to support your teaching and curriculum development roles.
At the beginning of each semester C-SALT hosts a welcome event for new academics and provides an orientation kit including the booklet ‘In at the Deep End’ written by Dr Phil Race. Copies are also available from AcademicDevelopment@usc.edu.au.
