What is a National Police Certificate?

A National Police Certificate is a check that will disclose any crimes you have committed or any criminal offenses that are currently in progress or currently being processed.

How do I obtain a National Police Certificate?

You must attend a police station with your identification; a fee will be charged.

Nursing and Midwifery Students: 

Please only apply online through the Australian Federal Police website.

How long will the process take?

It usually takes three weeks before you will receive your certificate in the mail however it does take longer when there are periods of high demand.

How much will it cost?

The cost is approximately A$42.00.

How long is the certificate valid for?

Your certificate will remain current for three years.

I’ve found a website that offers Criminal History Checks instantly online, is this acceptable?

No. The ONLY police certificate that will satisfy this requirement is a National Police Certificate issued by the Australian Federal Police Service through attending a local police station.

What do I do once I receive my National Police Certificate in the mail?

You will need to upload a copy of your certificate to your WILS online * account. See instructions on how to upload documents to WILS online.
