Having a baby? Join the Connect Program and be supported through your pregnancy by a student midwife.
The Connect Program
Students who are studying midwifery at the University of the Sunshine Coast undertake a wide range of practical experiences as part of their program.
One aspect of this experience is following women through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
What does the program involve?
Being part of the program means you will have the support of the student midwife and will contribute to the student’s learning by sharing your experiences. Once enrolled in the program you are able to negotiate with the student the type and frequency of contact. The midwifery student will be supervised by a qualified midwife at all times and is available to:
- Attend antenatal appointments with you.
- Provide support and information.
- Be with you at the time of your baby’s birth, if you wish and if the student is available.
- Visit you after the baby is born.
The Connect Program is coordinated by an experienced midwife, who will be available to answer your questions and be a point of contact if you have any concerns. At any time you can withdraw from the program by contacting the Coordinator.
How can I become involved?
If you are less than 35 weeks pregnant and would like further information about providing one of our midwifery students with an invaluable learning experience, contact:
