How to defer

Breadcrumbs

If you are offered a place in an undergraduate program or Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) at the University of the Sunshine Coast, you may choose to defer enrolment in that program for up to 2 years.

If you wish to defer your place, you must respond to the Notice of Offer from QTAC and the University as soon as possible after receiving your offer and no later than Census Date in the semester of offer.

Deferment is not available to non-award students (ie Headstart, Visiting, Cross-Institutional) except Study Abroad and International Exchange students.

Note: Deferment is not available for postgraduate or Honours programs.

How to defer your offer

Login to USC Central with the username and the initial password provided in your USC letter of offer.

  1. You can defer your offer in USC Central up until census date by selecting the 'Defer offer' option on the Select Response to offer page. Refer to the Respond to your offer video in the USC Central Guide for the steps to be completed.
  2. QTAC Applicants must also defer their offer with QTAC by the date specified.
How to defer after you have accepted your offer

If it is before census date in your first semester of study, you can apply to defer after accepting your place in your program.

Login to USC Central using your username and password.

  1. Click on Program.
  2. Click on the Take a Break/Defer/Withdraw tab.
  3. You will be redirected to a page which gives you the options to Defer or Withdraw. Select Defer.
  4. Select the term you intend to commence your studies and the reason for deferring from the drop-down menus.
  5. Click Defer offer.

QTAC applicants must also advise QTAC of their change of response to their offer via the online enquiry service or tel: 1300 467 822.

View the Deferring after accepting your offer video tutorial in the USC Central Guide.

How to change the semester you wish to take up your deferred place

Refer to the Changing when you intend to commence your program video in the USC Central Guide for a tutorial.

What happens next?

You are guaranteed a place in the program for which the original offer was made for up to 2 years, providing the program is available to commencing students in that year.

If the program is no longer offered or there has been a substantial change to the admission requirements or the program, the University will try to offer you a place in an appropriate alternative program.

Not all programs are available for mid-year entry—refer to the program description for your preferred program for commencement details.
