Step 2: Plan your study before you enrol

Planning your enrolment is an important start to your university life. It is an exciting time where you explore your options and plan your courses for your upcoming study periods.

Plan your study

Undergraduate students

To help choose your courses go to Courses and programs and select your degree and go to the 'What will I study?' tab (in the top menu). This is where your program structure and program requirements are listed. You must complete the courses and requirements listed in order to successfully complete your degree program. This includes any majors and/or minors and if you have any post-admission requirements.

On the 'What will I study?' tab, select:

  • Study location
  • Starting semester
  • Year of commencement

This will display your commencing program structure and the current recommended study sequence. You should follow your commencing program structure when enrolling.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to view your program requirements and notes. You can download this page as a PDF using the button at the bottom of the page.

TPP students

Refer to the recommended TPP courses for USC programs and find the undergraduate program you wish to continue on to after TPP from the list to view the recommended courses to enrol in.

Note for Undergraduate and TPP students:
If you have not received any course credit from previous study, enrol in your courses in the order shown in your recommended study sequence  (3-4 courses is full-time, 1-2 courses is part-time). Keep in mind studying less than four courses per study period will extend the normal duration of your program.

  • If you have received course credit from previous studies, refer to the Planning your study page to identify your remaining courses. Use your recommended study sequence to guide the order in which you enrol into your remaining courses.

View the Academic calendar to check the cut-off dates to add, swap or drop classes for each study period.

To map out your future enrolment refer to the Planning your study web page. This will enable you to manage your progress throughout your degree to suit your needs.

* For PDF documents you must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded from the Adobe Download page.

Major and minor planning

Most undergraduate programs allow students to select a major and/or minor area of study. Refer to your program requirements on the 'What will I study?' tab on your program page to see if you are eligible or required to undertake a major and/or minor. If you are required to select a major and/or minor you should do so as soon as possible as this may impact your ability to complete your program in the minimum time. Register your Major and/or Minor (see below) as soon as you have made your selection. Some programs have majors/minors already built-in.

Complete the Registration of Major / Minor Form and lodge with Student Central after you have enrolled. For specific program advice contact Student Central to speak to a Student adviser.

Credit for prior study

If you have completed previous tertiary study relevant to your program at USC you can apply for credit toward your study.

Also, recognition of prior learning (RPL) is available for knowledge and learning obtained through informal studies or work-related learning.

Apply for credit as soon as possible, as it can take a number of weeks to be processed. For more information, refer to Credit and recognition of prior learning.

To help you plan your enrolment with credit follow the Planning your study instructions.
