Welcome to new students

Orientation to USC Gympie is an important way to learn about the University, your campus and study requirements for the year. Attendance is highly recommended.

The event kicks off at 10am with an Official Welcome and Welcome to Country followed by an exciting schedule that will equip you with the information and knowledge to get your studies off to a great start. The day will provide essential information about your program as well as opportunities to navigate the campus, find your classes and meet new people.

USC Gympie students are also invited to attend the welcome activities held during the Orientation to USC program at the Sippy Downs campus.

If you have difficulties accessing any Orientation activities or information due to a disability, learning disorder, injury or illness, please contact our Disability Services team before the event so they can assist you.

Planning Your Study

This hands-on session will teach you how to understand the options and opportunities available to you within your program structure and plan your progress through your degree. Student Advisers will show you where to find and how to read your program structure, how to use your structure to suit your needs and how to map out your course enrolments for future semesters.

Learn how to access the Library, see an overview of core IT systems and services used by students. Find out more about Blackboard - the learning and course management system you will use for your studies.

Pre-semester study skills workshops - Friday 21 July from 10am-3pm

These Academic Skills workshops are run before the start of the academic year. They are designed for students to refresh their study skills in anticipation of the year ahead.

Learning Strategies and Time Management - Learn some simple strategies to enhance your learning approaches, improve your time management skills and get the most out of your tertiary studies.

Reading, Listening and Note taking - An introduction to identifying essential information and taking effective notes in class and while you study.

Analysing Assignment Questions - Learn to look for the most important aspects needed to analyse assignment questions.

Topics covered during these workshops include:

  • Quoting, paraphrasing and summarising
  • Essay writing

To register for any of these workshops, log into Student Hub using your USC username and password and select Events and Workshops at Gympie. Contact Student Central Gympie if you need assistance.

 

Transport

USC currently provides a shuttle bus service for students between Sippy Downs and Gympie, with a pick up point in Cooroy.

The service departs from Gympie and Sippy Downs three times daily (via Cooroy). This service does not operate during Semester breaks, nor during the examination period at the end of each Semester. Visit Express Shuttle for route and ticket details.

Co-op Bookshop

Visiting during Orientation to USC Gympie, the Co-op Bookshop has a wide range of textbooks available to support your studies.

To make things easy, we recommend that you contact the bookshop to pre-order your books for collection on this day.
