Academic Skills Workshops

Join one of the many academic skills workshops on offer to update your skills and guide you through your studies.

To register for Academic Skills workshops, log into Student Hub using your USC username and password and select Events and Workshops, or contact Student Central for assistance.

Academic Skills workshops will recommence in 2017, please check regularly for updates.

Note: USC SouthBank, Gympie and Fraser Coast students can attend Sippy Downs workshops.

Individual consultations

Appointments with an Academic Skills Adviser

  • Book online through Student Hub
  • 1x30 minute appointment per student per week - up to six (6) appointments per semester
  • Please bring a copy of your assignment, your Course Outline, assignment instructions and marking criteria/rubric
  • Face-to-face and phone appointments available

  • 10-15 minute consultations (no appointment necessary)

Pre-Semester Workshops

These Academic Skills workshops are run before the start of the academic year, for students to refresh their study skills in anticipation of the challenges ahead. For Semester 1 2017, these will be run during the Orientation Week, on Friday 24 February. Topics covered during these workshops include:

  • Reading, listening and note-taking
  • Researching
  • Quoting, paraphrasing and summarising
  • Essay writing

To register for any of these workshops, log into Student Hub using your USC username and password and select Events and Workshops at Gympie. Contact Student Central if you need assistance.

Individual consultations

During Semesters 1 and 2, an adviser will be on-site at Gympie one day each week for consultations, alternatively Sippy Downs advisers are available via phone, please check Student Hub for availability.

Pre-Semester Workshops

These Academic Skills workshops are run before the start of the academic year, for students to refresh their study skills in anticipation of the challenges ahead. For Semester 1 2017, these will be run during the Orientation Week, on Monday 20 February and Tuesday 21 February. Topics covered during these workshops include:

  • Reading, listening and note-taking
  • Researching
  • Quoting, paraphrasing and summarising
  • Essay writing

Tuesday

  • Business report writing
  • Learning strategies
  • Time and task management
  • Scientific report writing

To register for any of these workshops, log into Student Hub using your USC username and password and select Events and Workshops at Fraser Coast. Contact Student Central in A Block if you need assistance.

Individual consultations

Adviser Phil Wheeler is available on-site at Fraser Coast three days each week for face-to-face consultations, while Sippy Downs advisers are available for phone consultations throughout the week.
