Indigenous Direct Entry and Access Scheme (IDEAS)

Breadcrumbs

If you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, you may be given direct entry to a program based on your potential to succeed through our Indigenous Direct Entry Scheme (IDEAS).

This is a direct entry scheme for people who may not have received an OP, who received an OP that does not meet the cut-off for their chosen course, or, who might not have completed Year 12.

We will consider your past experience in relation to study and employment, as well as your potential to successfully complete University studies. Community involvement, past achievements or awards and current employment information are also considerations we will take into account.

All applicants who apply will be provided with either direct entry to a suitable program, or a place in Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP).

IDEAS is a USC initiative aimed at increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in programs across all areas of study.

To be eligible to be considered for entry under this program, applicants must:

  • Apply to study in an undergraduate course at USC
  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Be at least 17 years old or have completed Year 12 study

How to apply

Step 1: Complete the IDEAS online form.

Step 2: You will be invited to attend an informal meeting with one of our dedicated Student Advisers from the Buranga Centre.

Step 3: After this meeting you will participate in an interview with the Student Adviser and the Program Leader who coordinates the program for which you are applying.

Step 4: If you are approved for entry into an undergraduate program you will be advised at the interview, or alternative pathways will be discussed.

Step 5: The Student Adviser will provide assistance with completing paperwork for bursaries and scholarships.

Step 6: You will then receive your official offer letter and welcome pack from USC, after QTAC offers have been released.
