There’s one thing that all uni students seem to be able to do successfully… eat! If it was a uni course, a lot of us would be getting HD’s. The campus is always growing with great new food options for students so I’ve compiled a list of my top foodie recommendations for newbies and oldies alike.
Check out the top six eateries around campus that are sure to tickle your taste buds.
It might not be new, but it is a favourite among students. It’s a great place to hang out with friends or get some study done all while eating the delicious $5.50 meals. They taste even better when you know you’re getting a bargain and saving those valuable dollars. Aside from the student meals, the Brasserie caters for all appetites and tastes. There’s something for everyone. My favourite would definitely be the $5.50 lasagne & veg; it’s almost as good as mum’s!
Opening times: 7:30am-8pm Monday-Thursday and 7:30- 6pm on Friday during semester. (There’s also a ‘Pokemon Gym’ right outside!)
Great for meeting with teachers or for group assignments. And while the food can be a bit on the expensive side, the quality makes it one of my go-to foodie choices on campus. They also make great coffee, does anyone else take advantage of their huge coffees!? They cater for students and teachers who need to avoid gluten and dietary, which can make life easier for those who can’t enjoy the other food outlets around campus. If it wasn’t already noticeable, the large, or should I say super-sized coffees are my weakness, if you want delicious coffee that’s great value and an unbelievable size, then head to Café C.
Opening times: 7am-4pm Monday to Friday.
Only recently did USC receive what people believe is a healthy alternative for lunch. While there are healthy options available, they still provide the rest of us with delicious choices ranging from burgers to sandwiches and milkshakes. However, having more variety on campus means you can mix it up and try all the different options every day of the week. I can’t go past Raw Energy without eyeing off their acai bowls. I always feel healthy and refreshed when enjoying a bowl of deliciousness.
Opening times: Under the library 7:30am-5:30pm Monday to Friday.
Cherry Blossom Express
SUSHI!!!!! The best decision USC has made, in my opinion. Not everyone likes sushi, but for those of you who do, it’s fresh, delicious and cost effective. Plus the staff are friendly … that’s an added bonus. If I could pick one place that I am loyal to, it’s Cherry Blossom. I love everything about sushi and miso soup … and green tea! All the pre-study nutrition I need in one friendly place.
Opening times: 10am-5:30pm Monday to Friday.
It’s like our own secret coffee shop. Unless you look for it you’ll miss it because it’s tucked away inside the Co-op book store. They have great snacks and dessert options inside, but if you’re trying to avoid the inevitable crowds at the book shop, Co Café also has a neat little side window where, if you’re late for class or after a quick caffeine hit, you can grab a quick coffee and go. The express window saves the stress of entering the coffee shop during busy break times, I love nothing more than quick service; in and out with my coffee. But best of all, the Co Cafe offers a 10% discount to all Co-op members! (Which is most students.)
Opening times: 7:30am–3pm Monday- Friday (inside eating and seating closes at 2:30pm)
The Good Bean
The old Café J has been replaced with The Good Bean. If you’re looking for decent priced coffee, this is the place! Plus, it has a great outdoor seating arrangement. This is smack-bang in the centre of campus so it is great for soaking up the full atmosphere… and it’s super close to three Pokestop’s! The Good Bean is perfect if you want to catch up on your studies and still enjoy the outdoors. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it? The Good Bean delivers a little bit of sweetness every time you pick up your coffee. I say sweetness because on top of your coffee is a yummy chocolate freckle. It’s the little things. I always buy my coffee here, I’m a coffee addict and I need a grandé-sized cappuccino on lactose-free milk with caramel syrup.
Opening times: 7:30am-5:30pm Monday to Friday.
Eating at university is great and convenient and if I could recommend anything, it would be the coffees at Café C and the $5.50 hot meals at the Brasserie. Just remember, USC eateries are open Monday to Friday. The weekends and public holidays are closed, so you will have to find another alternative. If you’re not a 1st year it’s safe to assume you know your way around cheap eating however, for any 1st year’s after a quick cheap weekend meal, you can't go past the coast's various pizza deals. If you've lived at student accommodation you'll testify that pizza deliveries are essential to life when your fridge is empty!
No need to thank me :)
