Professional development and support

Excellent research that has a significant impact on disciplines and society depends, among other things, upon institutional capacity and individual researcher capability.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), Deans and Heads of School ensure the University has a staff profile in research commensurate with institutional goals. This includes provision of professional development opportunities at faculty, school and research centre/group levels and institution-wide provision through the Professional Development Program policy.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), Research Management Committee and Research Degrees Committee play a leadership role in the provision of professional development and support for researchers and supervisors.

The University is committed to strengthening research capability. This will be underpinned by the development of research leadership and the research capacity through targeted recruitment, creation of research career pathways and retention with a focus on early and mid career researchers.

The introduction of targeted Research Fellowships is one of the means by which research capability will be achieved.

Opportunities for early and mid career researchers including assistance with the preparation of high quality publications and grants will also be enhanced by the University's role in the newly established Centre for Leadership in Research Development and support provided by the Office of Research.

In addition, Research Degrees Committee holds a Supervisors Forum generally during Orientation Week every semester. The Supervisors Forum is an informal gathering of supervisors to discuss various higher degree by research matters.

The Office of Research provides general support across the institution for all matters related to research and the education of research higher degree students.
