Declan Humphreys

Dr Declan Humphreys is driven to bring ethics and moral philosophy into the education and practice of technology design and innovation. He currently coordinates the ethics in cyber security course, covering issues such as surveillance, policing cyber crime, disinformation, ethical design, and corporate responsibility.

Dr Humphreys' is current area of research focuses on how artificial intelligence (AI) affects our ethics, culture, and society today and what it means for our future. He earned his PhD in Philosophy, where he explored how digital technology, especially video games, impact the experience of pleasure in the digital age. Dr Humphrey's has a wide teaching experience in the areas of moral philosophy, media, communications, medical ethics and now focussing on the ethical side of cyber security and AI.

Alongside research he is passionate about translating research into the wider society through social commentary and a weekly blog focusing on AI, technology and ethics. He's contributed to the MindSET-do project at UniSC, helping young students across the Sunshine Coast learn about technology and programming.
