Rachel is the Lead for Social Work and Human Services Field Education in the School of Law and Society and the course coordinator for all social work and human services field placement courses. She has worked in tertiary institutions for over 13 years primarily focusing on social work field education.

Field Education placements offer students the opportunity to integrate their theoretical knowledge in a practical work setting whilst also focusing on the further development of values, skills and ethical frameworks for professional practice.

Rachel places a strong emphasis on developing positive and sustainable industry relationships to promote excellent learning opportunities for students in the field. She is an active member of the Queensland Field Education Network (QFEN) for social work and human services programs.

Rachel is an experienced social worker having practiced across both government and non-government settings. Her practice experience spans the fields of women’s services,  domestic and family violence, child protection, disability, working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and social work and the law.

Rachel McCarthy’s specialist areas of knowledge include, workplace learning requirements, social work supervision, ASWEAS accreditation, work based placements, social work.
