Credit for prior learning

The University of the Sunshine Coast offers credit for prior learning consistent with the Australian Qualifications Framework and general practice in the Australian Higher Education sector.

This means that prospective students can, under specified conditions, gain credit for previous study and qualifications towards a USC qualification.

Prospective students may, under specified conditions, also receive credit for experience, for instance in the workplace, towards a USC qualification.

Credit for previous study

USC offers differential credit for previous study at other Higher Education providers, schools, TAFE and other VET providers.

In addition, USC has developed partnerships with a number of TAFE / VET providers that enable students to opt into specific pathways that can provide special credit.

These can involve the award of two related qualifications, such as a diploma and a degree in the same or similar discipline areas, that can be gained more efficiently than under standard credit arrangements.

Prospective students with a degree, or part of a degree, will receive credit for previous study towards a USC qualification. The amount of credit is determined on a case by case basis. Prospective students seeking this type of credit are advised to make direct contact with the appropriate Faculty (Arts and Business or Science, Health, Education and Engineering).

Prospective students who have successfully completed a senior secondary school program that includes a special arrangement with USC, such as Headstart, will have this recognised for credit through the processes of admission and enrolment at USC.

Prospective students with Cert IV and higher TAFE / VET qualifications, from Australia or overseas, may receive credit towards a USC qualification. The areas in which the credit may be awarded, and the amount of credit is shown in the Credit transfer calculator.

Students wishing to apply for admission to USC with credit should follow the steps outlined in how to apply.

Credit for previous experience

Prospective students with relevant experience, such as work experience, may receive credit towards a USC qualification.
