Please note: Some courses may also include a compulsory field trip, requiring payment of an additional fee, and may be held outside of the regular teaching week, ie on weekends or during semester break.
What is a prerequisite and why do we have them?
Prerequisite courses are those that a student is required to complete prior to enrolling in another course.
Prerequisite courses are in place to ensure that a student enters a course with sufficient prior knowledge required to be successful in that course.
How do you meet a prerequisite?
You may meet a prerequisite by successfully completing the prerequisite course at USC or by successfully completing equivalent or comparable courses at another institution.
How do you find the prerequisite course description?
The course codes listed above link to course descriptions, which include a list of prerequisite courses.
The prerequisites are represented by course codes e.g. BUS105. To find the course description of the prerequisite, search for the course code using the course finder.
Once you have identified the prerequisite course, if you believe you have completed studies that might be considered equivalent or comparable to the listed prerequisite course, then you should submit the course choice for approval by USC.
If you believe you do not meet the prerequisite, please look for an alternative course.
If you are unsure whether you meet the prerequisite or not, please send us the course choice and we will assess your eligibility for the course.
What is an anti-requisite?
An anti-requisite course is a USC course where there is sufficient overlap with the content of another USC course that a student is not permitted to undertake or receive credit for both courses. If you have not studied at USC previously, and are in the Study Abroad or Exchange Program, you will not be affected by anti-requisites.
Refer to the explanation of terms for definitions of other words commonly used at university.
For more information, contact USC International.
