Study in Education

USC education graduates are poised to reap the benefits of the state’s spotlight on education in 2012.

The Queensland Government is injecting millions of dollars in funding into the areas of early childhood and schools.

In a bid to get more children into quality kindergarten programs, the government is investing $91 million in kindy and long daycare services. By the end of 2012, the government will build 85 new kindergartens with a commitment to provide 240 extra kindergarten services by 2014.

For USC’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Education graduates, demands for more qualified teachers, combined with this funding boost, will lead to considerable growth and career opportunities in the sector.

The future is equally bright for USC students wanting to pursue careers in school teaching, with the government set to employ up to 300 additional teachers and teacher aides.

There are plans to build a new school at Mango Hill, near Brisbane, and Brightwater State School on the Sunshine Coast will open its doors for the start of the 2012 school year.

Completing a degree in the field of education can lead to rewarding, positive and steady careers.

In the five years to 2014-15, employment in the education industry is expected to grow at an average rate of 2.7 per cent per year, which equates to around 119,000 new jobs Australia-wide. (Source: SkillsInfo)

USC offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate education degrees that can lead to teaching in childcare centres, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and in the vocational sector.

USC has a close working relationship with local primary and secondary schools to give degree students the practical experience they need. Rural and remote education placement opportunities are also a feature of the University’s education programs.

If you already have a core degree, such as a Bachelor of Arts, you can use this as a stepping stone to a teaching degree. USC offers a variety of graduate diplomas in education, including prep to year 3, primary and secondary.

Alternatively, for those seeking a non-school teaching career, the Bachelor of Education offers a broad knowledge base for those interested in private industry training or teaching.
