Information for graduands
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. The information below outlines things you need to do before, during and after the ceremony.

Ceremony Timelines
Times for collection of academic dress, photographs, registration, parking, guest seating, and the graduation function will be available on the USC website approximately six weeks prior to the ceremony date as well as in the Graduation Invitation.
Before the ceremony
Academic Dress and Registration
Prior to the commencement time of the ceremony you are required to collect your academic dress and register your attendance at the ceremony. The times for collection and registration will be outlined in your graduation invitation which will be emailed to graduands USC student email account approximately six weeks prior to the ceremony.
Please note that once your academic dress has been collected you will be:
- responsible for the care of the academic dress.
- required to sign that you have returned your academic dress or you will be charged for the replacement cost.
In the event of rain it is recommended to place your trencher in a plastic bag to keep it dry, as water damage may result in being charged a A$50 fee for replacement.
Assistance with wearing your academic dress is available at the collection point, the photography area, and prior to you crossing the stage.
Graduand registration
All graduands must register their attendance at the designated graduand registration area at the Sports Stadium before the allotted closing time, or you may not be able to be processed in time. You will be allocated your seat number once you are registered.
It is strongly recommended that you eat and attend to any personal matters well before the commencement of the ceremony.
Parking
It is recommended that graduands and guests park on campus, and catch the free Shuttle Bus to the Sports Stadium which leaves the USC Transit Centre, Platform 3 on a regular basis.
Where possible we encourage you to car pool. We appreciate your patience while Security directs you to the first available carpark on campus.
You can also walk to the Sports Stadium. (refer to the USC campus map for directions and to download a printable version).
Parking is not available at the Sports Stadium for the graduation ceremony except for students and guests with USC approved parking permits.
Professional photographs
You can have your portrait photograph taken before and after the ceremony at the Sports Stadium.

Guests seating
Your guests will enter the Stadium at the main entrance and be ushered to available seats. Graduands and their guests are seated separately. Guests will be required to show their ticket at the time of admittance and should be seated no later than 15 minutes before the ceremony commences. Remind your guests to bring along their guest tickets.

During the ceremony
Graduation ceremony
The ceremony commences with a formal Academic Procession and the Australian National Anthem. The ceremony can also be viewed via the live webcast.
Each graduand accepts their testamur tube on stage from the Chancellor. After exiting the stage, you will receive official documents from Student Administration before returning to your seat. It is important that you stay in your allocated seat for the duration of the ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, a formal procession will exit the ceremony venue. Once the formal procession has departed the venue, all guests may exit. It is recommended to arrange to meet family and friends at a designated area after the ceremony.
Please note: Graduands are expected to stay for the entire ceremony. Academic dress returns will not be accepted during the ceremony – hired academic dress must be returned to the designated collection area between the allotted times or a full replacement cost will be charged to your University account.

After the ceremony
Graduation function, robing return and professional photographs
You can have individual, group or family portrait photographs taken in the Sports Stadium after the ceremony concludes.
Academic dress must be returned tot he designated area by the allotted time after the Graduation ceremony (details to be advised). Please note that you are required to sign that you have returned your academic dress or you will be charged for the replacement cost. Failure to return hired academic dress will result in a charge for the replacement cost.
Graduates, guests and University staff are invited to enjoy the celebratory function after the ceremony. The function will be held on campus in the Piazza (outside the Art Gallery and weather-permitting). Your guest ticket entitles you to complimentary food (beverages will be available to purchase) at the function.
Free shuttle buses will ferry you from the Sports Stadium back onto campus, or you can walk along the pedestrian pathway. (refer to the USC campus map for directions and to download a printable version).
