Academic dress
Graduands participating in the Graduation ceremony are required to wear academic dress, comprising a gown, hood/stole, and trencher/bonnet. The University of the Sunshine Coast has specific academic dress and colours.
Academic dress hire
Academic dress is hired for you when your RSVP Form (attendance, registration and payment) is received. It is very important that you return your form by the due date. Payment of the graduation fee includes hire charges for academic dress.

Purchasing academic dress
Graduands have the option to purchase academic dress. Contact Academic Dress Hire Service to discuss your options.
Higher degree by research graduands also have the option of purchasing complete academic dress regalia. Contact Student Administration for more information.
Wearing academic dress
You will be fitted and given advice on how to wear your academic dress when you collect your gowns on campus before the ceremony. Student Administration staff also provide assistance before you cross the stage during the ceremony.
Each academic dress item is worn in a specific way. Refer to the photographs of University of the Sunshine Coast academic dress. The hood/stole is worn over your gown and lies across the front and shoulders. The square top of the trencher is worn horizontally, with the shorter peak of the trencher to the front and the tassel draped over the right side of the trencher. You should wear the tassel draped over the right side of the trencher during the Ceremony. Once you have graduated you wear the tassle draped over the left side of the trencher.
What to wear under your academic dress
The dress code for the event is smart casual. Formal evening wear is typically too dressy. Wearing a jacket under the gown is discouraged as these can be hot and bulky. A tie for men is considered appropriate. Footwear should be smart but comfortable as you will be required to walk across the stage and stand for short periods.
All graduands are encouraged to wear a shirt or blouse with buttons, which will assist in keeping the hood / stole in place. Pins should not be used to affix the hood or stole to your gown.
