Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme
The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) is a Commonwealth funded program that provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with supplementary tutorial assistance while studying at a recognized tertiary education provider.
The program is designed to assist students with tertiary study by aligning suitably qualified tutors to assist and support students needs. This is a great opportunity to receive academic support from a qualified support tutor.
Eligibility
Students who meet the criteria are eligible to receive up to two (2) hours tutorial assistance per week per course and an additional five (5) hours in total each semester for exam preparation. The tutorial support focuses on strengthening students ability to learn, study and research.
A student must:
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
- have been assessed as being in need of supplementary tutorial assistance in order to achieve satisfactory academic results
- be enrolled in an award course at the University of the Sunshine Coast
First year students are encouraged to apply for tutorial assistance.
Postgraduate students are not normally eligible to receive tutorial assistance, but can apply in writing for approval in exceptional circumstances.
Forms
Tutorial assistance is not available for courses or activities outside a student's degree requirements, for example, literacy and/or numeracy skills; private music, drama lessons or sports coaching.
