Student Liaison Committee

The Student Liaison Committee (SLC) was established as a result of the Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU) legislation. The need for an ongoing, formalised opportunity for students to meet directly with the Vice-Chancellor and President Designate was considered valuable and necessary.

Committee membership

  • Director, Student Services (Chair)
  • 2 students (1 first year and 1 third year student) nominated by each Faculty
  • 1 postgraduate student nominated by each Faculty
  • 1 student nominated by USC International
  • 3 students chosen from a call for Expressions of Interest
  • 1 representative from each official student group on campus

Terms of Reference

  1. Provide a forum for expression of views about the University's facilities for students;
  2. Establish a platform for providing and discussing student feedback;
  3. Provide student input to the development of policies, surveys, and services;
  4. Actively promote a positive student experience at the University; and
  5. Inform the Vice-Chancellor about emerging issues for students.

Meetings

Meetings are chaired by the Director, Student Services, Eva-Marie Seeto. An email is sent to all students prior to each meeting asking them to submit agenda items to a Committee representative. 

Agenda items are discussed at the meeting and appropriate action decided upon. Minutes from the meeting and a list of action items are emailed to Committee representatives, who then report back to students. Any outstanding action items are followed up at the next meeting. Some of the issues covered by the Committee have included: the availability of computers on campus, the provision of noticeboards on campus, safety of students and staff and recycling. Students are urged to contact a Committee member if they have any issues that are of concern.

An email calling for Expressions of Interest in joining the Committee is sent to all students at the start of each academic year.

Meeting dates:

All meetings will be held between 1pm and 2pm in the Council Room, Building C. Dates of the 2012 meetings are:

  • Thursday, 3 May
  • Thursday, 31 May
  • Thursday, 6 September
  • Thursday, 18 October
