The Library building

The award-winning Library building opened in 1997. The award-winning library building is located on the central spine of the USC campus.

Designed by Sunshine Coast architect John Mainwaring and Lawrence Nield and Partners, Sydney, the Library sits on the central spine of the campus aiming to provide a central focus for learning.

The design draws together images from the sea and the natural environment and uses a combination of traditional Queensland features, timber and natural light through three levels to create multiple spaces for learning, meeting, and reflection.

The Library building has won numerous design accolades including the 1997 Australian building of the year, the prestigious Sir Zelman Cowen Award by the National Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
