Introduction to the Library workshops
Introduction to the Library sessions are usually offered during Orientation Week and the first three weeks of semester.
These sessions provide an introduction to Library services and resources.
Classes for international and mature age students contain the same content, but recognise that students have a variety of learning styles and experience.
Tutorials are held in the Library Computer Lab, Ground Floor.
Classes for International Students are held in the Library Computer Lab Level 1.
Endnote tutorials are for staff, postgraduate and honours students only.
Tutorials after Orientation Week have hands-on experience and may include:
- an introduction to the resources of an academic Library and searching the Library catalogue
- principles of developing a research strategy, and literature searching with specific course reference tailored to an assignment, essay, or project
- searching specific databases and other online information services
- navigating the internet and conducting research on the web

Tutorial Series for Researchers
For members of the USC community who need advanced knowledge of research tools. Tutorials are designed for higher degree by research students, research assistants and honours students who have a specific research interest. Classes are repeated through the year. All classes are held in the Library Computer Lab, Ground Floor.
Useful research stuff - before you start
Some skills and suggestions before you start can save time, effort and frustration along your research journey. This class is run by librarians who have experienced all stages of the research journey.
Using Scopus and Web of Science
Scopus and Web of Science are the must have databases for researchers and research students. So the library has developed a class to demonstrate how essential to the researcher these databases are. Discover built in citation and analysis tools, in-depth searching and how to keep current in your topic.
Books
Learn how to locate and obtain books that are not on the USC shelves - without travelling or purchasing.
Using Google
Google is more than a search engine - it's a package of online resources that crosses all disciplines. Designed to extend the capacity of a Google search this session explores what lies beyond that single search box.
Finding Statistics
Find out where to look online for the statistics you need from Australia, Australian states and local government, as well as from overseas.
Databases - Companies, countries, markets
This is a specialist discipline area with its own set of information resources. This session draws together databases which can provide information for anyone requiring access to business and market information.
