Understanding the research strategy

When doing research, there are a number of steps to follow to find the information you need. The research strategy involves:

  • devising a search strategy so you have some ideas about what to look for
  • selecting resources to search for your information such as books, journal databases and using the internet
  • searching resources to find information
  • evaluating the results of your search to ensure that you have found the information you need

Each of these steps is necessary to ensure that you get the best possible results for your topic.

If evaluating your results shows that you have not found what you need, you may need to go back through the research strategy.
