School activities on Fraser Island
Students can explore Fraser Island's unique ecosystems from the comfortable base at Dilli Village. The Centre has clean, self-sufficient cabins, ample space to pitch a tent in the open, grassy camping area, an upgraded amenities block, shaded BBQs and outdoor tables, and an open classroom to conduct lessons or lectures.
Fraser Island has unlimited potential for diverse educational projects focusing on natural resources or their historical and current use. The Centre is currently used by a number of university and school groups for learning experiences, such as:
- discovering Fraser Island's unique fauna adaptations
- comparing the different lake types on the Island
- studying Fraser's unique bird life — identifying them, listening to their calls and watching their habits
- studying the foredunes on Seventy-Five Mile Beach, a short stroll from the Centre
- studying the management issues facing Fraser Island
To assist teachers, learning activities have been prepared by USC with a guide for teachers and worksheets for students to use while staying at the Fraser Island Research and Learning Centre.
These activities can be modified for different learning levels and will be emailed, as PDFs, to schools after confirmation of their booking at the Centre.
