Connecting to Eduroam - Windows 7

Step 1

Step 1: Wireless Network Connections

a) Click on the 'Wireless Network Connections' icon on the taskbar.

Step 2

Step 2: Open Network and Sharing

a) Click on the 'Open Network and Sharing Centre' link located at the bottom of the available network list.

Step 3

Step 3: Setup connection

a) Click on the 'Setup up a new connection or network' link.

Step 4

Step 4: Manually connect

a) Select 'Manually connect to a wireless network'.

b) Click Next to continue.

Step 5

Step 5: Add Eduroam network

a) Enter 'eduroam' as the Network Name'.

b) Select 'WPA2-Enterprise' as the Security Type.

c) Select 'AES' as the Encryption Type.

d) Check 'Start this connection automatically' if you would like to automatically connect to the eduroam network (This step is optional).

e) Click 'Next' to continue.

Step 6

Step 6: Change connection settings

a) Click 'Change connection settings'.

Step 7

Step 7: Security settings

a) Click on the 'Security' tab.

b) Ensure that the Security type selected is 'WPA2-Enterprise'.

c) Ensure that the Encryption type is 'AES'.

d) Click the 'Settings' button.

Step 8

Step 8: Validate server certificate

a) Un-check 'Validate server certificate' option. Make sure no certificates have been selected.

b) Click the 'Configure' button.

Step 9

Step 9: Select EAP Properties

a) Un-check 'Automatically use my Windows logon name and password'.

b) Click 'OK'

Click 'OK' on the Protected EAP Properties window.

Step 10

Step 10: Advanced settings

Click the 'Advanced settings' button.

Step 11

Step 11: Authentication mode

a) Ensure 'Specify authentication mode:' is checked.

b) Ensure 'User authentication' is selected.

c) Click 'OK'.

 

Click 'OK' on the eduroam Wireless Network Properties window.

Click 'Close' on the manually connect to a wireless network window.

Step 12

Step 12: Proxy settings

Check to make sure you have set up your proxy settings. Open up internet explorer and click on tools from the list select internet options

a) Select the ‘Connections’ tab

b) Click the ‘LAN Settings’ button

Step 13

Step 13: Automatic configuration

a) Under the ‘Automatic Configuration’ heading select the check box next to ‘Automatically detect settings’
Close all windows

Note: Make sure your wireless is turned on.

Note: To complete the following steps you must be in range of the wireless network.

Step 14

Step 14 connect to eduroam

Click on the 'Wireless Network Connections' icon on the taskbar. Connect to the eduroam network by clicking the connect button

Step 15

Step 15 logon window

When prompted:

1. Enter your student email address, eg a_c001@student.usc.edu.au

2. Enter your password.

3. Click 'OK'.

Step 16

Open your web browser to start browsing the web.
