Connecting to Eduroam - Windows XP

Step 1

Step 1 Select control panel

a) Click on the ‘Start’ button

b) Click on ‘Control Panel’.

Step 2

Step 2 Control panel

a) Double click on the ‘Network connections’ icon.

Step 3

Step 3 Wireless network connections

a) Right click on the ‘Wireless Network connection’ icon and click on the ‘Properties’ option.

Step 4

Step 4 Wireless network properties

a) Click on the ‘Wireless Networks’ tab.

b) Make sure the check box next to ‘Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings’ is checked.

c) NOTE: stuff about 3rd party network managing software.

d) Click the ‘Add’ button.

Step 5

Step 5 Network authentication

a) Enter ‘eduroam’ as the Network name (SSID).

b) Select ‘WPA2’ as the Network Authentication.

c) Select ‘AES’ as the Data encryption.

d) Click on the ‘Authentication’ tab.

Step 6

Step 6 Protected PEAP

a) Select ‘Protected EAP (PEAP)’ as the EAP type.

b) Un-check ‘Authenticate as computer when computer information is available’.

c) Click the ‘Properties’ button.

Step 7

Step 7 Validate server

a) Un-check ‘Validate server certificate’. Make sure no certificates are selected.

b) Click on the ‘Configure’ button.

Step 8

Step 8 Automatic logon

a) Un-check ‘Automatically use my Windows logon name and password’.
Click ‘OK’ on all windows to close them.

Step 9

Step 9 Connect LAN settings

Check to make sure you have set up your proxy settings. Open up internet explorer and click on tools from the list select internet options

1. Select the ‘Connections’ tab

2. Click the ‘LAN Settings’ button

Step 10

Step 10 Detecting LAN settings

Under the ‘Automatic Configuration’ heading select the check box next to ‘Automatically detect settings’
Close all windows

Note: Make sure your wireless is turned on.

To complete the following steps you must be in range of the wireless network.

Connect to the eduroam network

When connecting an information bubble will appear, click on it

A credentials box will appear

a) Enter your university email address

b) University Password

c) Click ‘OK’

Once connected, you can open your web browser.
